Sanofi Adds to its Support for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset

Donates $110,000 in support of cancer patients and the health of the local community

SOMERVILLE, NJ, April 23, 2019 - Sanofi is marking the tenth anniversary of its support for cancer patients at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s Steeplechase Cancer Center with a $100,000 donation to Somerset Health Care Foundation. The funds will be designated for the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique and the cancer center’s Patient Assistance Fund at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility.

The Wellness Boutique, the only facility of its kind in New Jersey, provides a full-range of image recovery items for men and women with cancer, including skin care products and swimsuits and lingerie uniquely-designed for women who have undergone breast cancer surgery. It offers patients the services of certified fitters who are specially trained to help patients select wigs or prostheses. The Patient Assistance Fund covers transportation costs, living expenses and items such as wigs and prosthetics for cancer patients.

Sanofi also has made an additional $10,000 gift to support the hospital’s Healthier Somerset Coalition and its Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The CHIP is a three-year effort to address public health issues in Somerset County identified through a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), including mental health, substance abuse, obesity, chronic disease and access to care.

“We are extremely grateful to Sanofi for their continued support of our Steeplechase Cancer Center,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “Our Wellness Boutique and our Breast Care Program are both named in honor of their long-standing commitment to improving cancer care in our community. This most recent gift will make a difference to so many patients and families, especially those who face financial hardships as a result of their cancer diagnosis. Their donation in support of our Community Health Improvement Plan will help us promote healthier lifestyles and enhance the quality of life for Somerset County residents.”

“Sanofi is proud to continue our longstanding support of the Somerset Health Care Foundation and the Steeplechase Cancer Center,” says Diana Blankman, Head of US Corporate Social Responsibility. “We see the Wellness Boutique and the Patient Assistance Fund as important ways to make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients. Sanofi also believes in making a positive and long-term impact in the community through its Corporate Social Responsibility efforts and we are happy to support the innovative approaches to public health issues across Somerset County that will be addressed through the latest Community Health Improvement Plan.”

The Steeplechase Cancer Center enables cancer patients to see their doctors, undergo outpatient treatment and participate in promising cancer research studies – all in one place close to home. The three-story, 63,000-square-foot facility, which opened in 2007, houses radiation therapy services, a PET/CT, infusion therapy, breast imaging services at the Sanofi US Breast Care Program, lung cancer screening, smoking cessation services, the hospital’s research team, oncologists’ and surgeons’ offices, nutritional counseling, patient navigator services, a patient resource library, the Sanofi US Wellness Boutique and complementary medicine services, such as yoga, t’ai chi, meditation and massage.
