Press Statement: Sanofi-aventis US Reiterates Policy on Advertising Placements

Recent comments attributed to a sanofi-aventis U.S. employee regarding advertising on the “Glenn Beck” program were not authorized by the company.  Sanofi-aventis U.S. would like to reiterate its policy on placement of product advertising:

Decisions about advertising on any given television network are never undertaken as an endorsement or non-endorsement of editorial content of a given program. Rather, our purpose in advertising our medicines is to provide important information to patients about certain diseases and the availability of various treatment options. We believe that this information improves communications between patients and their doctors, and this is the basis on which we make decisions about media placement.

Sanofi-aventis supports PhRMA’s revised Guiding Principles regarding pharmaceutical advertising which includes 18 specific guidelines for consumer advertising to educate, inform and foster patient-physician relationships. In addition to these Principles, sanofi-aventis U.S. advertising policy includes guidelines for our media-buying agencies to ensure advertising on family-friendly programs, which we believe is consistent and supportive of our corporate values.
